Why Organizations Need the Renewal Group

Today more than any other time the need to address these factors is crucial. Our current social, educational and business climates are in constant flux and change with ever increasing demands and pressure. We are bombarded with information on a daily basis, so much so that 80% of us feel we are in information over load. War, terror, crime, corporate fraud, and the safety of our children dominate the TV, radio, newspaper, internet, our conversations and our thoughts.

The predictions of the 60s and 70s were that technology would create more leisure time in our lives. This was one prediction that did not come to reality. Americans work more hours and take less vacation than any other country. In fact 54% of Americans believe that they are overworked and don’t have time for productive leisure and family pursuits. They also report that their performance and creativity has decreased affecting their work satisfaction and creating increased work/life conflict.

The pace of our 24/7 personal and organizational lives, along with information overload has increased stress, decreased our resiliency and stifled our emotional intelligence competencies. This lifestyle erodes our capacity to reach peak effectiveness, maintain our passion for work and drains our energy and creative resources. The consequences are numerous and serious. Many diseases and Illnesses are directly related to lifestyle stress. USA Today referred to stress as the silent terrorist inside our bodies waiting for the right moment to strike and disable or kill us.

Stress and diminished resiliency are just as damaging to organizations as they are to individuals. Stress is the primary factor in absenteeism, alcohol abuse, mental health issues and 60% of all visits to primary care doctors. When totaled the cost of these issues can have a significant negative impact on performance, productivity and the bottom line.

Research has for decades confirmed that individuals who have higher resiliency capacities are more productive and perform at higher levels than individuals who have diminished resiliency (Check your resiliency with our free quiz!)
